This is one of our favorite additions to our meal planning rotation. Traditionally served as a breakfast food in North African and Middle Eastern cooking, this savory and spicy tomato sauce with the addition of ground beef makes for a simple yet flavorful dinner. The easy weeknight dinner will soon become a favorite. It is such a good, wholesome meal that will bring comfort after a busy day. Add this into your rotation for an easy weeknight dinner that packs a punch of protein and is loaded with tomatoes rich in antioxidants, fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, B vitamins and potassium.
Serve with over whole-grain toast, rice or toasted naan.
Shakshuka

Equipment
- 1 Oven-safe 4qt. saute pan
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 pound Lean Ground Beef
- 1 Yellow Onion diced
- 1 Bell Pepper diced
- 1 tsp Garlic minced
- 1 tsp Ground Cumin
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1 tsp Paprika
- 1 14 oz. can Crushed Tomatoes
- 1 6 oz. can Tomato Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Tomato Paste
- Kosher Salt and Pepper to taste
- ¼ tsp Red Pepper Flakes
- 4 Eggs
- 1 Tbsp Crumbled Feta Cheese
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 375°F
- Heat pan with olive oil. Brown the ground beef for about 3-4 minutes.
- Add onion and pepper and cook for about 2 minutes.
- Add garlic, cumin, garam masala, paprika, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes and cook for about 5 minutes.
- Make 4 wells in the sauce.
- Crack the eggs into the wells (1 egg per well).
- Transfer pan to oven and bake for 8-12 minutes (depending on desired egg doneness).
- Remove pan from oven and top with a sprinkling of feta cheese.
- Serve alongside toasted naan or your favorite bread.
